#5 And now Smart Serve....

This pic should have been in last weeks blog but Blogger ate it. This is the expansive field directly in front of out house. It is vibrantly green, Winter Wheat.

Ray chose this pizza for dinner the other night along with wings and a salad. We have to have a salad giving the illusion that this is a healthy meal. Have you ever seen this much stuff on top of a pizza?!?!?! Vegetarian too.

This is a church on the road to Leamington. It appears to be closed. I took the pic simply because I like the look of this particular church. A couple of times there has been a car or van parked in front. Not sure what they are up to....

I know dark pic. When I came to the Bank Theatre for my acting class, I went home and told Ray that it was a very strange theatre as there were no seats. This week when we went to see the special Christmas Concert put on by the Bailey's for seniors there were seats. Lot of seats!!! Like magic!!!

There were three members of the Bailey group and they played for an hour and a half. We got to sing some too which was lovely. Now, the amazing thing to me was that they played clarinets and saxophones. Where we have lived for the last twenty plus years, they only play guitars!!!
The volunteers were amazing. They asked if you would like a coffee or tea as you came into the seating area and then offered to bring it to your seat. Never seen that before at a theatre. Very impressive.
Just before the show started a woman from Chartwell came around and handed out bags of cookies and candy canes. Oh, they are good marketers those Chartwell people!!!

We left the theatre and started walking back to the car when I suddenly spotted a batch of Spanish words outside a restaurant. Well, in we went. It was so much fun to speak Spanish and eat real Mexican food. You realize that all of that Mexican food in your grocery store never gets eaten in Mexico right? Tacos are always soft not hard break apart shells. Anyway I digress. The food was great and so was the service. We have actually been back since. As we were leaving the young woman who appears to run the place came and asked me where I learnt to speak Spanish and I found out that she was actually from Columbia. There are a lot of South American migrant workers in Leamington. They are so bundled up in clothing and we think it is quite mild out......

We finally made it down to the Wheatley dock this week. These are fishing boats. Ray sees their lights out on the lake in the early morning when it is still dark and I'm still in bed. Some local person told us that Wheatley is the largest fresh water fishery in the world but I'm not sure if that is true. Someone else told us that it was the richest per capital town in Canada and that proved to be incorrect so who knows?

When you live in a nautical town even the benches are in vogue.

I'm on a mission to visit all of the stores in town and this week it was the General Store and Textiles. What a surprise to see the majority of the food in Spanish. It was just like being in San Blas.

They had all of these fringes with jewels hanging off of the ends. I have to get me some of these. No idea what I will do with them but they are going to be mine.

All of these calendars are in Spanish. Maybe when I buy my bobbles I'll get one!!!

They had isles and isles of fabric. There is a large Mennonite community in the area and I hope they shop here. I hardly ever see a car outside of this large establishment but I hope someone is shopping locally!!!'

Down the stairs this week to sit and listen to the waves. Yesterday morning I woke to the sound of the waves and our bedroom is at the back of the house so I knew they were huge again.

See the large pile of boulders? 6k In case you have ever wondered on the price of a few large ones.

A steel wall prevents erosion.

This was strange. Three men in a tiny boat sat in front of our house for awhile. It is the only little boat we have seen. I got out the binoculars and they left....

Finally got the gorgeous sheepskin driving gloves. They come with cruise control.

Just look at what I won at the grocery store this week. We went in with a list of 8 things and then.......

Yesterday we headed off to Dockside Fisheries for some lunch stuff. Saw this sign and thought of you A.T.

And this one is for you J.S.

I had a hankering for oysters. I thought if they were $2.50 each I'd get 10. I was amazed at how tiny they were. Oh my gosh, they are like baby oysters compared with what I eat weekly in San Blas.

Another old guy shopping at the same time bought a bag of the claws of the right for $150. Then this woman right in front of me bought a bag of frozen lobster tails and a box of what said King Crab Legs and her bill came to $986 and I thought I was going to be a big spender!!! I heard her say that she was going to feed 7 people. Wow!!!

There were two kinds to choose from. I had no idea what to order. If we shucked them, they were $1.50 each. If they shucked them it was $3.00 each. The price of danger pay I guess. The sweet woman who served me labeled the four of one kind and the four other kind.

They were ok but not on my have to have list. Oysters will get me back to San Blas next winter!!!

I also bought this seafood salad which I would give a 4/10. Way too heavy on the vinegar and it over powered the actual taste of the seafood. Well, that was an interesting expensive somewhat disappointing lunch!!!

Saturday night found us back at the Bank Theatre for Improv Night. Oh my, I can not remember laughing so hard in years. There were 5 in the troupe and they were excellent. They perform once a month and are on the calendar for the next two months.
I got talking to one of the volunteers who is in my acting class and she said they were desperate for volunteers. They especially needed someone at the bar. I've always wanted to be a bar keep so this week I'm going to get my Smart Serve and in January you will find me serving at the bar at the Bank Theatre!!!
Now, something else on my bucket list has been to perform in One Flew Over the Coocoo's Nest as one of the patients. The theatre is putting it on in April which brings all kinds of complications for me but I'm hoping to talk to the director this week and see if he really needs people to audition for that part on Jan.3 and 4th. Like is he expecting to have dozens of applicants or say only two people to turn up? Interesting....

Yesterday found us in the choir loft at church for the first time. I suddenly discovered that there were stained glass windows I hadn't seen before. This pic does not do them justice.

This truly is a beautiful sanctuary. All of the little lights were on yesterday. I have to admit it was a little disappointing to have artificial candles on the advent wreath. I've never seen that before and also these lovely little lights at the end of the pews were also fake.

Remember folks - Jesus is the reason for season.

Have a wonderful relaxing week. Don't get caught up in what doesn't matter. Be kind and be blessed!!!
