#10 Books and Birds and Antiquing....

These are finished winter reads along with two Jeannette Walls books that I'm taking home for a friend to read. This batch went to the library as a donation and the next time I went in, they were on the shelf!!! The librarian said, "You read good books!" When I called in to see if the library wanted them, she asked me in a very dubious voice, "Who are the authors?" I think she was afraid that I was going to say Danielle Steel or that they were all Harlequin romances.

We finally got snow and with it came new birds including this gorgeous cardinal and his partner. We also got to see two swans flying past, blue jays, morning doves, cow birds, starlings and some unidentifiable little number.

I heard the bird hit the window. Then I heard Max's head hit the window and then this is how he stayed for over an hour. I'm not sure if he was consoling or waiting for lunch.

Did I hear a dog?

I did!!!!!

And just minutes before it had been eating away with the rest of the critters. Sometimes it feels like we're living in a zoo!!!
For the third night in a row Max has woken us up barking. The first time I went to make sure there was no stranger in the kitchen. I thought I saw deer tracks but Ray says they are rabbit's. So much for my tracking skills....
Last night Ray encouraged the dog with a few expletives to get out of the sunroom and then he shut the door between the dining room and kitchen so we could get back to sleep in peace. I guess this is going to have to be the new routine. Except, when Max was first assigned to the other part of the house, he went over to the sliding glass door in the living room and shoved his head through the drapes to bark once more. Oh, I don't think so!!! He is sometimes like a nasty kid who always has to have the last say.

These are common merganser. They have such a great time out in the frigid water. Swimming, diving, chatting it up. There are so many out there it is really incredible.

This is what the streams of them look like.

We finally have snow on the ground. We actually got ploughed which was quite the surprise and then an even greater surprise was when the young man came back with a shovel and shoveled off the porch and all around the car. We live in the Land of Nice.
We have wind most of the time and as you can see, it didn't take long for our lovely plough job to get blown in. We so appreciated the gesture.

This is inside the feed store in Wheatley. I loved the owl kite hanging in the back. We were here for yet more bird seed. Now, we also got two suit blocks. Different varieties as birds are such gourmet eaters. The birds haven't touched them in over 3 days. I guess it must be an acquired taste.

Yesterday we got the pleasure of singing in the choir. Third Sunday of every month. Don't ask. Oh these windows are so majestic. The sun was streaming through and it filled my heart with joy and blinded me at the same time. My eyes were actually watering. Probably some people thought I was having a spiritual experience......

Antiquing. One of my favourite things to do. Accumulating items for the barn, Antiques in the Barn, that will open at the beginning of May. I love when I find something that I have never seen before and primitive like this cake box are really my thing.

I sell a lot of jugs and this is a big one.

I love baskets and this picnic basket caught my eye after I'd paid for all of my other treasures. The owner picked it up and brought to me and slashed the price and it was sold. It is large and has leather handles. I'm hoping to pack a batch of stuff inside of it to get it home. That or buy a truck.

I love art deco. These are the second pieces that I have found this winter for next season. Not easy to find.

Another basket and oh look, it is already full of stuff!!!

This is one of my kindergarten centres that I rotate through in the course of a day. I loved the colours. So bright and cheery on cold blowy winter days. Sad to see that one piece was missing. I thought Ray might have vacuumed it up but he is pleading innocence. I'm going to put it into paper recycling now. Sad.

This is the first one I did and it took forever to complete. So many pieces similar in colour.

And that's it for this week. We have a very busy week coming up. I hope you are fine and getting excited about February just around the corner. It seems amazing that we will be heading home in about 6 weeks. This winter is flying by.

Have a blessed week and I'll see you here next Monday. Thanks so much for your comments. I love reading them.
