#9 And the Wind Blew and Blew and .....

Many locals had told us to buy gas at the Res. We finally made it this week as we were in the area. I thought it was going to be way out of town but it was close to the southern border of Leamington. I drive around first trying to figure out how this works. Not sure if it is ok to buy gas here. I don't have a status card!!! Note how there is no one in this lane. I finally park to the left of the sign and then wonder if everyone over here has cards. Ray starts asking the guy beside us and thankfully the guy was hard of hearing and left without giving us any guidance. I advise Ray to just fill er up!!! And he did.

As you can see, this is not a little gas bar. It is huge!!! There is also a convenience store and I'm going to check it out to see if there are any crafts inside.

And here it is. The reason for this being such a popular spot. In Wheatley gas is 134.5. I guess we will be back to fill er up again!!!

As you were leaving the house the other day, I see this pile of tires that hadn't been there a couple of days before so I take this pic and when we get home I put this post on Wheatley Community Page on fb - " If your tires recently fell off of your vehicle, you can pick them up on Cemetery Road." Well, within minutes people started responding. Within a couple of hours I had 3 guys offering to come and pick them up and dispose of them appropriately. Over 50 people reacted to the post and 31 commented. The tires were picked up that afternoon. Now, it made me wonder, if I had of put that post on What's up Perry Township, what would the response have been? I honestly doubt that it would have been the same. Wheatley is an exceptional community. I think it has to do with the explosion that occurred here 3 years ago and how it brought this community together. Like no other!!!!

Oh Max, if I could only read your mind...."You have got to be kidding! They think I'm going to get into that tub and then get air lifted up on that table? Hu!" I know Max hates this whole process but when we are renting it seems essential. I told the groomer when we left him that if he starts freaking out, just stop and we will come and get him, suds and all. It actually went so well that he is going back at the end of Feb. for another spa time but we haven't told him yet.

Back to Essex this week for more cup of soups. They are so good!!! Oh, and a couple of chocolate bars. I must say that Essex looks much more up scale than it did two years ago. It looks like it has had a make over.....

While we hung around waiting for Max, we checked out couches at Lazeboy. We have a problem as we are both looking for something totally different from each other. I figured we may just get luck here. First I learnt that each Lazeboy outlet is independent. I figured I could find one here and have it shipped to Emsdale in May when the snow was finally gone. That isn't going to happen. Once the sales lady discovered what our intent was she walked away and I thought, "Well, she isn't going to make a sale so she is no longer interested in us" but a few minutes later she hands me a paper with a place in Huntsville that sells Lazeboy. She then proceeded to walk around the store trying to find what we were looking for. She was fantastic and I had judged her so wrongly. Life lesson there....again. Maybe we need to find some place that will custom build us a couch!!! lol

Another great find that day was this antique store in Cottam where Max was getting pampered. It is the only one in the area which is incredible. Their prices were great, just like mine in Antiques in the Barn. The two guys who own it were very chatty and I will be back for sure at the end of Feb.

The storm hit this area on Friday. The waves hitting the shore were shooting 30-40 feet up into the air. It was spectacular. There were white caps out on the lake as far as you could see. The wind was so strong that it was blowing the wave tops to form white outs on the water. The walls in the sunroom were creaking and the large windows were moving. Ray was making a plan of what he needed to do if one of them finally gave in. He was going to sacrifice one of the rugs to nail up, outside, to try and protect the inside. Well, he'd be doing that alone. I did offer to take pics of the event....

We saw our first ice on the water this morning. It is that brownish line you can see.

Now sing along with me, "Morning has broken, like the first morning......"

This was so amazing to see. Condensation coming off of the lake in clouds as the water is so much warmer than the air which is -17.
That wasn't the most amazing thing though. It was the bald eagle. I saw one last week when I was on a zoom call so couldn't grab my camera. This morning we are sitting in the sun room and I exclaim that there is another bald eagle. The doubting man suggests it is an osprey or cormorant. He couldn't see the white head as the sun was so bright in our eyes and then.....the bald eagle dives into the water and catches this really huge fish and takes it south to a dock just down the road from us. I grab the binoculars and sure enough it is a bald eagle for sure!!! Wow, what a very cool experience that was...

I'm reading the NippissingNorthBay news on line the other day when I see that there is a cereal recall from Superstores. I tell Ray and he says,"Yes, I saw that and the cereal we bought we bought is on the list." What??? When were you going to tell me? After I'd eaten it? I'm don't generally like cereal but this one I do like sort of as a snack food. We checked out all of the info and yes, this is on of THOSE boxes. Now I'm going to call Quaker and hope this isn't going to be a pain.....

Have a great week!!! Have an adventure!!! Do a good deed!!!

Blessings.
