#16 The Ring and Home....

Our closest large town is Leamington. Many of you will know that it is known as the tomato capital of Canada. I'm not sure that is still true but.... I recently heard that the town was hoping to get this giant tomato downtown refurbished this year and willing to pay 50k to get the job done. Really? I think I could do it for $500 and make a healthy profit!!!!

Following the perch fiasco I went to trip advisor to find their recommendations for seafood in Leamington and Joey's was their #1. I often use trip advisor when we travel to find out where the best food is. I've written numerous reviews of the good, bad and ugly. As we walk in the first door there is a sandwich board advertising today's special and you'll never guess what it was.... right!!! Perch. That gave us a laugh. I'll pass.....

We studied the menu like you would study for an important exam. Finally we chose a seafood chowder (5/10), a lobster bisque (9/10) and coconut shrimp (8/10). Next time we travel here, Joey's will be on the list of where to eat for sure. The server was lovely which always adds to the pleasure.

We have robins. Lots and lots of big fat robins. All the birds are chasing one another and playing leap frog or something that looks a lot like that.

Meet Joseph, son of Tony, at Tony's Fine Jewelry Leamington. Most of you know the sad story of how my engagement ring that Ray had designed was stolen a year and a half ago while we were on Grand Bahama Island. If you are reading this, I do believe in karma. I fretted over the loss and late last summer told Ray the only way I was going to be able to deal with it was replace the ring.
I met with Bobbi Haviland and we spent hours while she drew, erased and drew again. At the beginning of February I met with Joseph and we discussed what I wanted and showed him the drawings which he took pics of. Many visits later, with time out for our sicknesses, last Friday we picked up the final piece......

While gassing up the car for the big trip home, I suddenly spied this food truck. We had had cheesecake on a stick two years ago when they were located in Kingsville but we discovered when we returned that they had closed that location. Ray got cherry and I got skor and honestly, it took me two days to eat it. Oh what a treat!!!!!!!!

I still find it mind boggling that we constantly hear about world conflicts on the media and Wheatley is never mentioned. The pain continues here. 10 families still have not been able to return to their homes over 2 years since the explosion.
Gas alarms were handed out door to door in the downtown area. There have been announcements on local media and hopefully every home now has one. We don't but I think we should. The hydrogen sulphide gas moves horizontally from the uncapped mines and makes it very hard to detect. There maybe thousands of these uncapped unregistered mines in Ontario. Ontario, yours to discover......

I bet you were wondering what it looked like and here it is!!!! It actually brought tears to my eyes when I saw it. Joseph had done an amazing job of creating this gorgeous piece. Ray's student loan bought the first one and I guess that is what it would cost to pay for this one today. It is very similar to the original but larger. Oh, I love it. I'm waiting for him to pop the question....

Wheatley has welcomed us. It has been a pleasure. I love the area. Love the house. I have loved being here for the winter. It has been a delight. Thanks for sharing our experience.

Once this is published we are going to start loading the car. We leave at dawn tomorrow morning. I'll take the 401 until I've had enough and then take one of the other routes joining up with 407, 400 and finally 11. Looking forward to heading home to the bush.

Don't forget to share the blog with friends and family. Again, thanks for being here and hope to see you real soon!!!

God Bless.
